Ordering

Can I cancel or change my order?

I completely understand that sometimes we can change our mind a second after hitting the checkout confirmation!

I typically start to commence preparing your parcel of handmade goodness as soon as I do my happy dance to have received your order. This includes lodging a pre-payment for the postage of your item, however if I hear from you via email within within 3 hours of the purchase confirmation and I haven't yet finalised a postage lodgment I am able to cancel your purchase.

If I am yet to post your design and you'd like to swap it for something else from my range I am happy to do that to ensure you have the Lyssy May design of your dreams winging its way to you.

What if I want to speak to someone?

If you'd like to speak with me directly to discuss your designs or have any concerns or feedback, I can return a call to you at a time that is convenient. Please either email me or use the contact form with the best number to call you on.

Do you make to order?

Yes! Over the years I have worked with my customers to create a handmade bag design especially for them. This can include:

  • adjusting a Lyssy May design to suit your needs,
  • using a fabric that is special to you that you'd love to have made into a bag
  • special occasion designs for weddings or something that you've found hard to find just what you need.

Made to order always starts best with a conversation to understand your needs and then I can provide a no obligation quote.

Shipping

What countries do you ship to?

I currently only have the option to ship within Australia via my website. To enquire about shipping to a different destination, please contact me and I'd be happy to provide options for international shipping.

How much does Shipping cost?

Standard postage and handling within Australia is a flat rate of $10 or spend over $55 and receive FREE SHIPPING.

I am local in the Redcliffe area - can I click and collect?

If you live in the 4019 - 4020 postcodes in Queensland, you can also choose local delivery at checkout for FREE DELIVERY. There just needs to be a safe place to leave your design.

How long will it take to receive my order?

I aim to dispatch all of my treasured handmade orders within 48 hours, however on occasions where there is a short shop closure (e.g for holidays away from the sewing machine!) I will advise of any impact to postage dates. I will keep in touch with you to update you on the progress on your order.

Standard shipping normally takes 3-5 days within the East Coast of Australia and may be up to 10 days in other areas of Australia.

Returns and Refunds

How do I return a product?

If you are dissatisfied with your purchase from our Latest Collection, I'd love to work with you to ensure that you can have the Lyssy May product you're seeking however I understand that when buying online you sometimes need to see something in real life to make that final decision!

  • I am happy to exchange it for a product for the same value or provide a full refund if you do change your mind or the design has been damaged or is faulty.
  • I require notification of your intent to return the product within 10 business days of you receiving your design.

  • If you are local to 4019 - 4020 I will happily come and collect the design in person if convenient.
  • Given the extensive consultation process for my Made to Order service, I do not offer returns or exchanges for something that has been created bespoke to your needs.
  •  It would be appreciated if you could contact me prior to returning the design so that we can coordinate all the details for you.

How long will it take to receive my refund?

Upon receipt of the design I will provide a full refund to your preferred payment option provided the item is in its original condition and will also reimburse you the return postage costs.

Refunds are processed within 7 days from when I receive the item(s).

About Lyssy May's Products

Where are the bags made?

Lyssy May designs are all handmade in a little backyard studio in sunny Redcliffe, Queensland.

Alyssa personally cuts, sews and markets all of her bags, wallets and other homemade designs.

How do I care for a fabric bag?

All Lyssy May fabric designs have been treated with a fabric protector prior to your purchase.

Fabric bags are fabulously lightweight and as a popular accessory there may be a time to give your design a freshen up. Many of our customers have been using their Lyssy May bag for years!

  • It is recommended that any small marks that your bag may receive are spot removed with a damp cloth. We have found the most effective method is to use an alcohol wipe, such as a baby wipe.
  • As most of our designs are made from fashion fabrics in cottons and linen blends, a separate cool hand wash in a mild detergent is usually just what they need to spring back into action. It is also recommended for denim bags that you add some salt to the water although every effort is made to ensure that the fabrics used are colour fast and we pre-wash our denims.

  • Lie flat in the shade to dry.

  • If you have had a special occasion design made to order in a silk (for example), we can work with you on the best care instructions.

  • Avoiding any embellishments, a warm iron is best to keep the design in shape. 

  • Wash drawstring bags separately on the first wash and but every wash after that they can join the rest of your clothes in the machine.

  • If you are unsure about any of the care instructions, you can email me with any of your questions and I'll more than happy to help.

Do you repair bags?

If you have a much loved Lyssy May design that could do with a refresh (such as new handles) or could be changed up in some way I can consult to see if it can have a mini-makeover.

What is Lyssy May's approach to sustainability?

I am not perfect but I do try to tread softly wherever possible in my business practices, including:

  • Lyssy May's backyard studio is powered by solar which is in plentiful supply in sunny Queensland most of the year!
  • The studio is also fitted with a water tank that I use to water the herb garden in front of the studio.
  • All fabric bags are typically vegan or vegetarian friendly and if any leather is ever used in a design it has been sourced as a recycled or offcut material that was destined for landfill (and this will be clearly called out in the product description).
  • With an extensive archive of fabrics and materials I have collected over 20 years, I focus on using what I have wherever possible and also seek to ethically source locally produced materials. The exception to this is often most relevant to bag hardware such as magnetic clasps which are manufactured overseas.
  • I support Australian packaging suppliers and source recycled and compostable materials wherever possible.
